Ode to Troublemakers

Some people are remembered in statues. Others are remembered in the systems they refused to accept. Ode to Troublemakers is rooted in Madiba's birth name, Rolihlahla, a name that literally means troublemaker, to celebrate the courage to act, provoke and transform. From Madiba's generation to today's young and old changemakers, the film brings past and present together as a reminder that progress has always belonged to those who refused to stay silent and chose justice over comfort.

Working with Madiba's own historical archive, the visual language transformed memory into movement and legacy into living action. Design, editing and animation shaped the film's visual foundation, while a series of posters expanded its identity through handmade graphic experiments. Scanography, typography and screen printing were used in an intuitive process guided by gesture, material and discovery. More than the final result, the project carries the value of process, of stepping away from the computer, letting things flow and getting our hands dirty.
